Professional Credentials
Licensed Professional Counselor
A Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) is a mental health professional licensed by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council to provide professional counseling services. LPCs have completed required graduate education, examination, and supervised clinical experience and may practice independently within the scope of their license, education, training, and professional competence.
Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor
A Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) is a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor who has met additional requirements to provide clinical supervision to LPC Associates working toward independent licensure. An LPC-S may provide professional counseling services independently and may also provide clinical supervision, consultation, and professional development within the scope of their license, training, and competence.
Licensed Professional Counselor Associate
A Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC Associate) is a mental health professional licensed by the Texas Behavioral Health Executive Council who has completed the required graduate education and examination requirements for licensure and is completing the supervised clinical experience required for independent practice. LPC Associates provide professional counseling services under the supervision of a Texas LPC-S and practice within the scope of their license, education, training, and supervision.
Master’s Level Counseling Intern
A Master’s Level Counseling Intern is a graduate student completing the clinical training requirements of a master’s degree program in counseling or a related field. Counseling interns are not independently licensed and provide services as part of their supervised educational and clinical training. Their work is conducted under appropriate clinical and academic supervision and within the scope of their education, training, supervision, and applicable program requirements.
Location of Counseling Services
Counseling services are provided only when the client is physically located in Texas at the time of the session.
